Dr. Peter Duke
Dr Peter Duke is the owner of Western Smiles Dental Care as well as the Principal Dentist and Clinical Director.
Graduated from University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom, with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1991, he entered into private dental practice in 1991, then commenced post-graduate studies, earning a diploma in General Dental Practice from the Royal College of Surgeons, United Kingdom, in 1994.
Dr Duke is currently a councillor of the Australian Dental Association Western Australia Branch and maintains a focus on education to keep abreast with the latest techniques and to strive for excellence in his field.
He is very passionate about helping people overcome any fears that they may have about attending to their dental care. “I am a people kind of person and love to meet new people each day,” he elaborates. “I enjoy the challenge of running a business and managing a caring and motivated team.”
Dr Duke joined Western Smiles (formerly known as Mirrabooka Dental Surgery) as an associate dentist in 1999, buying into the partnership in 2001 and buying the business in 2009. Over the years, he has steered the practice through an extensive re-development.
Outside of work, Dr Duke can often be found jet-skiing or boating on the Swan River or the ocean, and is a keen motor cyclist and follower of motor sports, as well as a classic car enthusiast. Oral Health Therapist
Originally from Perth, Narys studied at Curtin University, graduating with a bachelor in Oral Health Therapy. With the practice for two years, Narys currently divides her time between Western Smiles as well as two other practices.
Of her work, Narys says, “The most part I enjoy about my job is basically just helping people by educating them on the importance of oral health. Developing a good relationship with your patients is always a good feeling, especially when they are deeply grateful and thankful for your services. I love the fact that I get to work with some amazing and beautiful people!”
When she isn’t busy shuttling between three dental clinics, this animal lover enjoys travelling and finding new places to eat and explore.
Although she is originally from Perth, Maggie received her training at the Prince Philip Dental Hospital in Hong Kong. With Western Smiles since 2012, she enjoys the awesome team and lovely patients with whom she gets to work.
Outside of the dental clinic, Maggie enjoys travelling, exercising and listening to music.
Bev calls Perth her hometown, but she was educated in the United Kingdom. She qualified as a registered nurse in 1990, working in the fields of general medicine, medical research and accident and emergency before changing her career pathway into medical administration.
With Western Smiles for 11 years, Bev loves witnessing the journey of new patients who come to see them. She reports that some are very nervous when they first contact the dental clinic and often report after their first visit that they feel reassured that they are going to be well cared for.
Bev says, “To see them develop into a patient who is relaxed about their dental visit is so rewarding. I love being part of a team that allows patients to feel this way. I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to meet our diverse patient base, and I love hearing all of the stories they share.”
Outside of the dental clinic, Bev enjoys a variety of water sports, making the most of the beautiful rivers and oceans Western Australia has to offer, as well as spending time with family and friends.
Diana has her dental assistant certificate, is a published author, and has also received training in kinesiology, reflexology, quantum touch and momentum management training for the dental industry. With Western Smiles since 2011, she loves connecting and supporting patients and team members, encouraging people to have the best experience at their dental visit. Diana enjoys developing great relationships with clients and team members.
Diana calls Perth her hometown, but she enjoys exploring the rest of Australia and experiencing adventures. She also likes to socialise with family and friends and renovate homes and develop land.
With the clinic for the past five years, Neisha has a diploma in nursing and is originally from Perth. She loves working with the awesome team at Western Smiles as well as the interaction with patients—young and old—and being of service to others.
Outside of work, Neisha enjoys gardening, cooking, entertaining, reading, travelling, home decorating, eating out and crafting.
Anne-Marie is originally from Perth and has been with Western Smiles since 2017, and she enjoys having fun with the people she works with and the patients they see. Anne-Marie says, “It’s a fun, vibrant environment that’s really enjoyable to work in.”
This busy mum doesn’t have a lot of extra time for leisure pursuits as she has two young children. When there is time, she and her family enjoy being outdoors, particularly horse riding and relaxing in the pool in summer. Anne-Marie is currently exploring her artistic side with watercolours.
Emily graduated from St Mary’s Anglican Girls School in 2017, going on to study dental assisting at DNA Kingston. While a student at DNA Kingston, she was awarded Dental Nursing Dux of the year.
Her education confirmed her love for every aspect of dentistry, and Emily currently attends Curtin University where she is studying to become an oral health therapist. With Western Smiles since 2017, Emily loves her job because it gives her the opportunity to meet and form relationships with a variety of different people. She also loves her team because of the fun, happiness and positivity they bring into the practice—as well as her day.
Originally from Perth, Emily enjoys being outdoors, exploring the natural beauty Western Australia has to offer. When she isn’t working, you might find her camping with friends or spending time on the water jet skiing, wind surfing or boating.
From Perth originally, Louise just joined Western Smiles in February 2019. She received her DCA certificate from Perth Technical College, where she was recognized as Most Practical Student. Louise cites being part of a friendly, caring team that is professional while still being a fun place to work as the best part of her position.
Outside of her work, she enjoys volunteering to help those who are less fortunate. Louise also stays active and busy with her growing family. She is passionate about cooking and enjoys seeing the pleasure people get from eating good food.
Gillian is fairly new to the clinic, having joined in March 2019. Originally from Sunderland, England, she enjoys working with the amazing team at Western Smiles and getting to know patients who come in. Gillian says, “It’s such a pleasure working together as a team with such a caring group of people.” She also cites Dr Peter Duke as not only an incredible dentist, but as someone who sets such a great example on how to communicate with both patients and staff.
Outside of work, Gillian enjoys spending quality time with her children and grandchildren as well as travelling and renovating furniture.
